  • In 99%  of the above cases the spouses did not retain an attorney and pay a “retainer” which now days in NE Florida ranges from $3,500 to $5,000. That initial payment is used up quickly  as you are charged $250 to $350 per hour for all the time your attorney works on your case ( Phone calls, e-mails, letters, meetings, motions, research, subpoenas, depositions, interrogatories and other legal work).  When this “discovery “ phase of the litigation is completed (several months) the Judge assigned to the case will order the spouses and their attorneys to attend a mediation to resolve their disagreements. Most Florida divorces  settle in mediation and the Judge approves the couples mediated divorce settlement and no trial is ever held.
